Al principio sentí mi orgullo geek herido al costarme entender para donde correr al entrar a uno de esos eventos tan deseados por parte de la gran G. Debo reconocer que recibir la tan esperada invitación para la Ola de Google no dejé de sentirme privilegiado por formar parte de los exclusivos 100,000 invitados a probar el non plus ultra de MountainView.
Esta emoción inicial dió paso luego a una gran incomodidad de sentir que por primera vez, una interfaz de Google deja de ser tan simple de entender e ingresa al campo de la complejidad por las web por gusto. Y lo peor, no soy el único. Según un sitio no oficial de Google Easier to Understand (nombre más difícil no pudieron haber elegido) 66% afirman que entender a un Chef Sueco resulta más sencillo que entender cómo usar Google Wave. y el 34% que afirma que prefieren usar Wave a un Sueco, sólo se refieren al entendimiento del mismo, ni siquiera a la usabilidad. Estas cifras se actualizan con cada recarga del sitio, por lo que en este momento El Cálculo vectorial resulta más sencillo para 58% de personas que ya saben qué.
Aunque la página no sea más que una graciosa parodia, tiene un buen punto a su favor. Wave puede convertirse en una incómoda piedra en el zapato de la cual Google tendrá que aprender mucho. Y que un vídeo no es suficiente para llegar a la gran masa que siempre ha sido su fuerte.
Por cierto, parece que Wave es más entendible que las mujeres… tienen los bits embarrados de razón.

Thanks for posting these. While Simple Minds is a band not especially well-served by the 12" format, I’d recommend checking out Zeus B. Held’s extended remix of "Oh, Jungleland," which absolutely blows the doors off the anything on Once Upon a Time.

I don’t know if anyone could ever dance to these sorts of 80s remixes, but I appreciate the hell out of them as a musician. With those dense Steve Lillywhite mixes, and the guitar and keyboard parts all intertwined to the point of indistinguishability, it’s incredibly useful to have things broken down and deconstructed so I can make out what Charlie Burchill is actually playing, and learn to play it myself.

Actually, these 12" versions of "Sanctify Yourself" and, specially, "All the Things she said" were huge in clubs and mixtapes in Mexico City around that time.

Great mix, David! I love Sparkle in the Rain, but because of the mastering, all the songs sound flat to me. There’s no punch in the drums, the high end is pushed WAY up, and, alas, it kind of sounds like AM radio.

Simple Minds will always hold a special place in my heart because they were the very first concert I got to go to with just me and my friends (no parents, older siblings, etc.), during their tour supporting "Once Upon a Time".

I saw Simple Minds for "Once Upon A Time" and the opener was Shriekback. (This was in Boston, MA.)
